KENDALL, Fla.- The early season offensive woes continued for the Florida SouthWestern State Buccaneers Baseball team Tuesday afternoon across Alligator Alley as they took on Miami Dade in non-conference action. The Bucs were shutout 7-0 by the Sharks, managing just five hits while striking out 12 times in a defeat to send them to 2-3 on the early season.
Miami Dade wasted no time in jumping out in front of the Bucs, plating a 1st inning run after a leadoff double and two out single to take an early 1-0 lead.
The Bucs had a chance to answer in the 2nd, putting two on with just one out, but a strikeout and a groundout ended the frame as Miami Dade continued to lead it 1-0.
FSW again put a pair of runners on base in the 4th, but like the 2nd, they would be stranded as a lineout brought the inning to a close.
The Sharks blew things open in the 5th, scoring five times on six hits and one costly FSW error to take a 6-0 lead midway through.
After stretch time, the Sharks added another tally, getting a run on a pair of singles and a walk to take a 7-0 lead.
The Bucs had one last chance to get back into the game, loading the bases with a two out rally in the 8th, but their 10th strikeout of the night killed the momentum and the inning before Miami Dade closed things out in the 9th for a 7-0 win.
FSW managed just five hits in the loss while Miami Dade banged out 11. Drake Dobyanski was the lone bright spot at the plate, going 2 for 4 in the loss. Brendan Koester takes the loss, allowing 2 hits and a run in 3 innings of work to fall to 0-1 on the year. Daniel Vos was the only one of four FSW pitchers to now allow a run in the contest.
The Bucs fall to 2-3 on the year while Miami Dade improves to 3-1.
FSW will have to bounce back right away as they host Broward Wednesday at home at City of Palms Park in a 6 PM first pitch.
