*Suncoast Conference All-Academic Team (2020)

Freshman* (2021): Besser pitched in nine games, drawing four starts for the Suncoast Conference Champion Bucs in 2021. He notched a 4.62 ERA on the season, striking out 28 opposing hitters in 25 1/3 innings worked. He was lights out in the postseason, throwing five innings of hitless baseball through two outings, striking out 6 and earning a pair of saves at the FCSAA State Tournament.  

Freshman (2020): Besser was off to a big start to his freshman campaign before Covid-19 brought an end to the Bucs 2020 season.  He pitched in 7 games, starting 5, going 3-1 in 27 innings worked.  He posted a 3.00 ERA and struck out a team high 36 for the Bucs.  He got thrown into the fire, making his collegiate debut against #5 Chipola in early February.  He earned his first collegiate win against Elev8 Academy, throwing the first four of a combined no-hitter for the Bucs.  He picked up wins in each of his final two starts of the year, going 6 innings against both Miami Dade and Hillsborough, striking out 7 in both games in blowout Buc wins.  

High School: Besser was a four time 1st Team All-Conference performer at South Adams High School.  He finished his senior season with 130 strikeouts in just 54 innings pitched, working to the tune of a 0.77 ERA.  In 241 career innings pitched in high school, he struck out 451 opposing hitters and finished with a 1.27 ERA.  

Personal: Born September 28, 2000, he is the son of Mike and Katina Besser.  He has one brother, Adam (18) who plays at Ivy Tech.

Bucs Upended To Force Deciding Game Three

The #8 Florida SouthWestern State Buccaneers scored three runs in the top of the 1st as the visiting team at home at City of Palms Park Saturday afternoon against the Indian River Pioneers in game two of the Fort Myers Regional portion of the FCSAA State Tournament, but they didn't score again as the Bucs went six innings without a hit after the hot start and watched as their lead disintegrated  in the 4th inning and the Pioneers took a lead they never relinquished in the 5th as Indian River took the game 4-3 to force a third and deciding game in the series.

Besser Deals Bucs to Series Clinching Win

Sometimes relief pitchers come in and get an out to get their team out of a jam, or sometimes they throw a scoreless inning to close out a win, and then there is what Grant Besser did for the #7 Florida SouthWestern State Buccaneers Monday afternoon in Downtown Fort Myers.  Besser entered early in what was shaping up to be a shootout between the Bucs and the State College of Florida Manatees and threw five innings of sparkling relief, allowing just one run to will FSW to a 9-6 win to clinch the series win and cut the Bucs magic number for their third straight Suncoast Conference Championship to just one.
