*Honorable Mention NJCAA All-American (2022)

Sophomore (Fall 2022): Williams transfers to FSW from the University of Missouri where he spent the fall of 2022.  

Freshman (2022): Williams was an Honorable Mention NJCAA All-American as a freshman last season at Mineral Area College where he set a new program record with 25 home runs. Williams played in 49 games, hitting .366 and slugging .891, adding 11 doubles and 3 triples to his 25 dingers.  He had four multi-home run games as a freshman and also had a stretch of four straight games that he left the yard. 

Personal: Born October 12, 2002, he is the son of Michael and Jennifer Williams. He has two younger siblings, Madison (17), and Drake (9).

In game one of the Florida SouthWestern State Buccaneers' three game FCSAA State Tournament series with #3 Central Florida, it was the big innings from the Patriots that did the Purple and Aqua in.  Saturday it was the opposite as the Patriots scored in eight of nine innings, answering every FSW push with their own as the Bucs season came to a close with a 12-6 win by Central Florida to sweep the series 2-0.

In the ever developing technological statistics analysis called Sabermetrics in Baseball, there is a stat called 'WAR', standing for Wins Above Replacement. Sunday, Florida SouthWestern sophomore Derek Williams added a nice big +1 in that category next to his name as the slugging first baseman finished 3-3 with a double, two home runs, and nine RBIs in just three innings of work to lead the Buccaneers to a 16-1 blowout win of perennial NJCAA power and #8 National ranked Wabash Valley to wrap up the Bucs stay at the Perfect Game Juco Classic in Panama City Beach.

Bucs Take PG Opener In Extras

The Florida SouthWestern State Buccaneers let a three run lead slip in the final scheduled inning against the Chattahoochee Valley Pirates Friday afternoon in their opening game of the 2023 Perfect Game Juco Classic, but rebounded with a pair in extras before closing out the Pirates 9-7 to advance to the quarterfinals on Saturday.

Do It All Gardner Helps Bucs Earn Split at Early Bird Classic

Reminiscent of opening day on Friday, the Florida SouthWestern State Buccaneers split a pair of games at the Juco Early Bird Classic in Auburndale on Saturday, dropping a 7-1 early morning decision to #10 Chipola before responding for an 8-6 win over former Suncoast Conference rival Polk State in their second contest of the day.
