AVON PARK, Fla- The #7 Florida SouthWestern State Buccaneers launched four home runs in a 13-3 run rule rout of the NJCAA DII #16 South Florida State Panthers Tuesday night in Avon Park to give FSW Head Coach Zac Cole his 100th career win with the Purple and Aqua.
The Bucs didn't waste any time jumping all over the Panthers as Jake Mueller crushed his team leading 10th home run of the year just three batters into the game to give FSW a quick 2-0 lead and one inning later Luke Orfi blasted a solo shot out to left to put the Bucs up 3-1 after two.
FSW added on in the 4th as Orfi knocked a run in with a groundout and Devin Parks followed suit later in the inning to make it 5-1 Bucs after 3 1/2.
Cole Greer closed out his fourth inning of work on the mound with a scoreless frame and a pair of strikeouts to keep it a 5-1 game and it remained that way until Carlos Sanchez led off the FSW 6th with a solo shot to the pull side to make it 6-1 Bucs.
The fireworks show continued in the 7th as the Bucs mounted a two out rally before stretch time and capped it with a grand slam from Nathan Fink to blow the lead open to 10-1.
South Florida State showed some life in the 7th with a pair of runs after an FSW error to make it a 10-3 game but the Bucs answered right back with three more in the top of the 8th to stretch it to a 10 run lead at 13-3.
The Bucs put up a zero in the 8th to close things out as the run rule kicked in with FSW winning it 13-3.
FSW banged out 13 hits, including eight for extra bases in the win. Mueller and Sanchez both homered and doubled while Ty Hamilton picked up three hits for the Bucs. Greer was the beneficiary of the offensive explosion, going four innings and allowing four hits and one run to pick up the win and improve to 3-1 on the year.
The Bucs win their seventh straight to improve to 32-9 on the year while South Florida State drops to 28-15.
The win is FSW Head Coach Zac Cole's 100th in the Purple and Aqua.
