NEW PORT RICHEY, Fla.- It was an inter-divisional Top 10 matchup Tuesday night in New Port Richey as the NJCAA D1 #10 Florida SouthWestern State Buccaneers took on the NJCAA D2 #1 Pasco Hernando State Bobcats. The Bucs were unable to get anything going offensively as the Bobcats shutout FSW to win 4-0 and hand the Bucs their second consecutive defeat.
The Bucs had a scoring chance right off the bat in the 1st, but got a runner cut down at the plate and Pasco had an even better opportunity in the bottom of the inning, loading the bases with nobody out before a strikeout and a double play ball ended the threat and kept the game scoreless through an entertaining 1st inning of action.
Pasco loaded the bases again in the 2nd but again FSW starter Parker Burgess was able to wiggle off the hook, keeping it a 0-0 game after two.
The Bucs threatened in the 4th, putting two on with one out, but a double play again ended the threat and kept the game scoreless.
The FSW defense one upped the Bobcats double play in the bottom of the 4th , turning a triple play on a failed bunt attempt to shut down the Pasco rally.
Pasco finally cracked the ice in the bottom of the 5th , using three straight singles to push across a run and take a 1-0 lead.
The Bucs looked to answer right away, putting runners on the corners with one out, but back to back ground balls to third failed to get the job done and FSW remained in the trail position 1-0 after six complete.
The Bucs giftwrapped three runs for the Bobcats in the 7th , making an error, hitting three batters, and walking another to allow Pasco to pad their advantage to 4-0.
That was all she wrote for FSW as the Bucs went down in order in the 8th and 9th innings as Pasco finished off the 4-0 shutout win to split the season series with FSW.
Pasco outhit FSW 12-6 in the contest with Jake Mueller the only Buc with multiple hits, finishing 2-3 with FSW's only extra base hit of the game. Cole Greer suffered the loss on the mound, allowing five hits and one run in three innings of work to fall to 3-2 on the year.
FSW drops their second straight after a nine game winning streak to fall to 34-10 on the year while Pasco remains hot as they improve to 37-9.
The Bucs now turn their attention back to Citrus Conference action where they open a big three game series on Thursday with Miami Dade at Buccaneers Park in Fort Myers with first pitch set for 3 PM.
