FSW Sophomore Spotlight- Anthony Ruocco- UNC Greensboro
A mainstay at the top of the Florida SouthWestern lineup all season long, sophomore Anthony Ruocco will look to make his impact in new colors next year as he has signed at the University of North Carolina Greensboro.
FORT MYERS, Fla.- A mainstay at the top of the Florida SouthWestern lineup all season long, sophomore Anthony Ruocco will look to make his impact in new colors next year as he has signed at the University of North Carolina Greensboro.
Ruocco played in 59 games for the Bucs this season, hitting .354 with 21 extra base hits and 44 RBIs to earn 2nd Team All-Citrus Conference honors. He had 23 multi-hit games on the year including eight three hit games and a career high four hit game in a win over Seminole State. He was a menace for opposing teams on the bases, going 22 for 23 in stolen base attempts while scoring 63 runs which ranked second on the team. He fielded .954 and was a part of 22 double plays on the year to earn the FCSAA Gold Glove at second base. He was also rewarded for his work in the classroom by earning CSC Academic All-District honors.
As a team, Ruocco helped the Bucs win their first Citrus Conference and FCSAA Championships while reaching the Juco World Series for the first time in program history.
Ruocco will reunite with FSW teammate Jake Mueller in Greensboro. The two will join a Spartans squad coming off of a 21-33 campaign and a trip to the SoCon Tournament.
Ruocco is one of seven Bucs that have signed at the Division I level this season and one of nine overall who have signed at the next level thus far, joining Abel Albarran (Middle Tennessee St.), Luke Orfi (Texas Tech), Jake Mueller (UNC-Greensboro), Nathan Fink (Sam Houston State), Brock Knoerr (Western Kentucky), Beau Brailey (Campbell), and Nik Pereira & Josiah Velazquez (Tampa).
