Former Florida SouthWestern Buccaneer Jared Davis will get an opportunity to live out his professional Baseball dream after being selected in the 17th round of the 2025 Major League Baseball Draft by the Athletics on Monday.
ATLANTA, Ga.- Former Florida SouthWestern Buccaneer Jared Davis will get an opportunity to live out his professional Baseball dream after being selected in the 17th round of the 2025 Major League Baseball Draft by the Athletics on Monday.
Davis was the second former Buc selected on Monday, joining 2024 FSW teammate Justin Thomas who was taken by the Houston Astros in the 11th round.
Davis was a 2nd Team All-Conference selection for the Bucs in 2024, hitting .322 with 16 doubles, 5 home runs, and a Citrus Conference leading 37 stolen bases. He played in 56 games, posting an .894 OPS and scoring 53 runs.
Showing his versatility and athleticism, Davis was primarily an outfielder for the Bucs before transferring to Virginia Tech for the 2025 season and playing mostly second base, but was drafted by the A's as a shortstop.
At Virginia Tech this season Davis made a number of highlight reel plays on the defensive side of the ball while hitting .283 and slugging .493 with 14 doubles and 9 home runs while driving in 44 runs.
Davis will have the option to return to Virginia Tech for his senior season with the Hokies or sign with the Athletics. If he does sign, he would join a list of 21 other former FSW players currently playing with Major League Baseball organizations.
