TALLAHASSEE, Fla.- After powering the Florida SouthWestern Buccaneers to a Citrus Conference sweep of the Polk State Eagles over the weekend, sophomore slugger Aiden Talarico has been named the FCSAA Player of the Week as announced by the State on Tuesday.
Talarico was on fire for FSW in a record breaking weekend for the Bucs, going 8-12, good for a .667 batting average while scoring seven and driving in nine runs in FSW's three game sweep of Polk State. Thursday he opened the series with a bang, going 3-4 with a homer and three RBIs to help the Bucs to a 9-8 win at home at Buccaneers Park. He stayed hot as the series shifted to Winter Haven, going 3-4 with two more RBIs and three runs scored in a 27-4 thumping of the Eagles in game one of the doubleheader before wrapping things up with his third straight multi-hit effort, going 2-4 with a triple, a home run, and four RBIs as the Bucs cruised to a 17-6 win in game two to complete the sweep.
On the season Talarico is hitting .358 with 6 home runs and 26 RBIs which rank 4th in the state, as does his .811 slugging percentage through 18 Buccaneer contests.
Talarico is the second straight Buc to be named the FCSAA Player of the Week after outfield mate Bishop Quarles got the week three nod last week.
Talarico and the Bucs begin a three game Citrus Conference series Thursday at home at Buccaneers Park when they host Santa Fe in a 2 PM first pitch in Fort Myers.
