Bucs Blow Past Bobcats in Midweek Tuneup
The #6 Florida SouthWestern Buccaneers raced past the visiting St. Thomas Bobcats Tuesday afternoon at Buccaneers Park in Fort Myers, getting an outstanding pitching effort from four different arms and a three hit day from Keenan Jabeth to win 8-1 to improve to 17-5 on the year.
FORT MYERS, Fla.- The #6 Florida SouthWestern Buccaneers raced past the visiting St. Thomas Bobcats Tuesday afternoon at Buccaneers Park in Fort Myers, getting an outstanding pitching effort from four different arms and a three hit day from Keenan Jabeth to win 8-1 to improve to 17-5 on the year.
The Bucs cracked the scoreboard right away in the bottom of the 1st as Cris Walley singled with one out to bring home Nick April-Gath who walked and stole second to begin the inning to put FSW in front 1-0.
Robert Mitchell blew through the St. Thomas order in the 2nd and 3rd striking out six straight Bobcat hitters to keep it a 1-0 game through 2 1/2.
FSW added to their lead in the bottom of the 3rd as Elijah Coston popped a two run shot out to right and they added two ore runs later in the inning to open a 5-0 lead at the end of three.
The Bucs used a pair of walks and a hit batter to load the bases in the 4th and Coston delivered a sacrifice fly for his third RBI of the game to make it 6-0 FSW.
After three scoreless frames from Brady Jones out of the FSW bullpen it remained a 6-0 game in favor of the Bucs to stretch time.
The Bucs added to their lead in the bottom of the 7th , taking advantage of a St. Thomas error for their first run of the inning before Greg Caban singled back up the middle to bring home another tally to bump the FSW lead to 8-0.
St. Thomas scored their only run of the game in the 8th after a one out FSW error, but it was too little, too late as the Bucs finished off an 8-1 win with a 1-2-3 9th.
The Bucs outhit the Bobcats 13-2 in the win with Keenan Jabeth going 3-5 and Andy Perez and Nick April-Gath both collecting a pair of knocks. Mitchell went three scoreless innings, allowing just one hit and striking out seven to earn the win to improve to 3-1 on the year while Jones also put up three zeroes and allowed just one hit before Ryan Grzesiak closed things out with a scoreless 9th with a pair of strikeouts.
The Bucs improve to 17-5 on the year with the win.
FSW will be back in action on Thursday on the road in Fort Pierce as they begin a three game series with Citrus Conference rival Indian River before the series returns to Fort Myers Saturday for a noon doubleheader.
