10 Run Fifth Powers Bucs Past Pasco
The #6 Florida SouthWestern Buccaneers used a 10 run 5th inning to hammer the DII #2 Pasco-Hernando Bobcats 14-2 in non-conference Tuesday at Buccaneers Park in Fort Myers. Robbie Demetree and Evan Taveras provided the punch for the Bucs, hitting back to back home runs in the 10 run FSW 5th and combining for seven RBIs in the inning.
FORT MYERS, Fla.- The #6 Florida SouthWestern Buccaneers used a 10 run 5th inning to hammer the DII #2 Pasco-Hernando Bobcats 14-2 in non-conference Tuesday at Buccaneers Park in Fort Myers. Robbie Demetree and Evan Taveras provided the punch for the Bucs, hitting back to back home runs in the 10 run FSW 5th and combining for seven RBIs in the inning.
The Bucs got off and running in the 1st , taking advantage of a Pasco error to score three unearned runs to grab an early 3-0 lead.
FSW added to their lead in the 2nd , loading the bases with one out before Jonah St. Antoine lifted a sacrifice fly to drive a run home to make it 4-0 after two.
Pasco got on the board with a solo home run in the 3rd to cut the Bucs lead to 4-1 and FSW gifted the Bobcats another tally in the 4th on a walk and three wild pitches to make it a two run game at the end of four complete.
Ryan Grzesiak pitched around a runner on third, no out jam in the 5th with three strikeouts to keep it a 4-2 game midway through and the Bucs offense carried the momentum into their half of the frame their next time up.
Elijah Coston tripled with one out in the FSW 5th and after the 270 foot sprint, trotted home on a line drive, two run home run from Robbie Demetree to make it 6-2 Bucs. One batter later Evan Taveras shot one out to right for back to back jacks for the Bucs and RBIs from Bishop Quarles and St. Antoine later in the frame made it 9-2 FSW. They weren't done yet as Coston was hit by a pitch with the bases loaded to force home a run to extend the Bucs lead to 10-2 and behind him Demetree cracked a two run double to the gap in left center to balloon the lead to 12-2. Taveras then stepped to the dish and ripped a two run single through the left side to make it 14-2 FSW when all was said and done. Demetree and Taveras combined for seven RBIs in the inning that included 14 hitters to the plate.
Brady Jones took the ball out of the Bucs bullpen and carried it home from there, blanking the Bobcats in the final two innings to kick in the run rule with FSW winning it 14-2 in seven.
Demetree and Taveras powered the offense, each going 2-3 and homering while combining for seven RBIs, all in the 10 run 5th for FSW. Quarles finished 2-3, stole three bases, and scored a pair of runs from the top half of the Bucs order. A solid pitching effort from the Bucs was overshadowed in the offensive outburst as Robert Mitchell earned the win with three innings of one run ball, improving to 4-1 on the year while Grzesiak and Jones finished the game with three scoreless frames, striking out five for the Bucs.
The Bucs pick up win number 20 on the season with the victory, improving to 20-6 on the year while Pasco falls to 16-10 on the year.
FSW is back in action on Thursday when they begin a three game Citrus Conference series at home against Eastern Florida with first pitch scheduled for 3 PM at Buccaneers Park.
