Freshman (2022-2023): Hopkins was a mainstay in the Bucs rotation as a freshman last season, seeing action in all 29 games and drawing 26 starts which tied for most on the team. He averaged 6.0 poins and 2.1 rebounds per game in 18.2 minutes of action per night. He scored in double figures five times including a 15 point effort late in the season against Hillsborough.  Also a standout student, Hopkins earned his way onto both the FCSAA and Southern Conference All-Academic Teams as a freshman.  

High School: Hopkins earned four letters at Whitfield Academy where he was a two-time All-State selection.  As a senior he averaged a double-double with 17 points and 10 rebounds per game to earn 1st Team All-Region and 2nd Team All-State accolades.  He finished his high school career with 1,200 points, 600 rebounds, and 200 assists.  Also a star in the classroom, Hopkins was a member of the National Honor Society and was on the Principal's List from 2018-2020 . 

Personal: Born December 7, 2001, he is the son of Arthur and Yvonne Hopkins.  He comes from an athletic bloodline as his dad Arthur ran track at Maryland, his mom Yvonne played basketball at Drake, and his sister Moriah played volleyball at Xavier.

The Florida SouthWestern State Buccaneers led the #8 Daytona State Falcons for 37:56 of their Citrus Conference tilt Monday night in Suncoast Credit Union Arena.  The Falcons didn't lead for a single second of game action.  However, in one of the oddest quirks you will see on a stat sheet, the Falcons, who erased a 17 point FSW lead over the final 10 minutes of the contest, got a game winning basket with less than 0.1 on the clock to stun the Bucs and claim their share of the inaugural Citrus Conference Championship.

Bucs Ride Hot Start to Road Win in Miami

As the old saying goes 'it's not how you start, it's how you finish'; well that didn't necessarily ring true for the #24 Florida SouthWestern Buccaneers on Wednesday night in Miami as the Bucs raced out to a 24 point first half lead, before hanging on late for a 74-64 win over the Miami Dade Sharks in Citrus Conference action.

FSW Secures 20th Win With Big Second Half

The #24 Florida SouthWestern State Buccaneers earned their 20th win of the season Wednesday night in Suncoast Credit Union Arena, using a 48 point second half to run past the visiting St. Petersburg Titans 75-46 in Citrus Conference action.

Sharpshooting Bucs Fly Past Eagles

Despite dressing just eight players for their Citrus Conference contest Saturday afternoon against Polk State, the #25 Florida SouthWestern State Buccaneers shot 53% from the field and 48% from the three point line, flying past the Eagles 88-72 for their 20th straight win in the series against Polk.

Bucs Fall 109-106 In Instant Classic With #4 Daytona

In a matchup that lived up to it's billing between two of the hottest teams in the country, the #4 Daytona State Falcons outlasted the #20 Florida SouthWestern State Buccaneers 109-106 in overtime Saturday afternoon in Daytona. FSW suffered the defeat despite shooting 57% from the field and 65% from the three point line while spoiling a 38 point, 13 rebound performance from sophomore Dezdrick Lindsay.

FSW Wins High Flying Affair Over Indian River

In a game that resembled an amusement park roller coaster ride, the #20 Florida SouthWestern State Buccaneers outlasted the Indian River State Pioneers 97-93 in a thrilling affair Wednesday night in Suncoast Credit Union Arena.

Huge Second Half Comeback Nets Bucs Win Over Mustangs

With 18:00 left in Friday's game against the Monroe Mustangs, the Florida SouthWestern State Buccaneers looked like they were in trouble, trailing their counterparts from New York by 15.  Fast forward 16 minutes on the game clock and the Bucs were not only up, but up by 17 and well on their way to victory. At the final horn it was an 83-69 win for the Bucs over the Mustangs to improve to 6-3 overall on the year.

Bucs Break Century Mark Against Spartans

After needing a furious late game comeback on Friday to earn a win, the Florida SouthWestern State Buccaneers were not in the mood for a repeat Saturday afternoon in Suncoast Credit Union Arena, starting hot and finishing hot in a 105-47 blowout of the visiting Elgin Spartans to close out the 2023 FSW Classic in Fort Myers.

Bucs Get Past Panthers In Low Scoring Affair

For fans of offense, Monday night's game between the Florida SouthWestern State Buccaneers and the Palm Beach State Panthers wasn't for you. The consolation prize for FSW fans was the Bucs coming away with a 67-50 win in a game that was marred with 32 turnovers and a combined 23% shooting from the three point line.

Hopkins Career High 20 Leads Bucs Past Bobcats

Playing in what was as much of a home game as he will get during his Florida SouthWestern career, Buccaneer sophomore AJ Hopkins put on a show Saturday afternoon at the Jets Classic in Americus, Georgia, nailing six three pointers and scoring a career high 20 as #8 Florida SouthWestern raced past East Georgia State 87-56 to improve to 2-1 on the early season.
