JACKSONVILLE, Fla.- The Florida SouthWestern State Buccaneers handed the DII #8 Florida State College at Jacksonville Manta Rays their first loss of the 2024 season in convincing fashion Friday night in the Reef, jumping out to a 12 point halftime lead before hanging on late for a 71-62 win to improve to 5-2 on the year.
Early on it was the inside out combo of K'Jei Parker and Eugene Alvin leading the way for the Bucs as Parker poured in eight first half points and Alvin another six to get FSW out to a 36-24 lead after 20 minutes of action.
FSCJ made some noise midway through the second half to close the Bucs lead down to four, but the Bucs found a second wind, riding Parker and backcourt mate Ahmed Souhmahoro to the finish line for a 71-62 victory at the final horn.
Parker led the Bucs with a game high 18 points while Souhmahoro finished with 10, all coming in the second half for FSW.
FSW improves to 5-2 on the year with the win while FSCJ drops their first of the year to fall to 10-1.
The Bucs have a quick turnaround for another tough road game on Saturday when they make the trip across I-10 to take on Tallahassee State in the state's capital.
