FSW Sophomore Spotlight- Jafeth Martinez- USC Upstate
Florida SouthWestern sophomore Jafeth Martinez will trade in his Purple and Aqua threads for some Green and White gear next season, but he will be doing it with a familiar face as the Buccaneers big man will suit up for former FSW Head Coach Marty Richter and USC Upstate for the 2025-2026 season.
FORT MYERS, Fla.- Florida SouthWestern sophomore Jafeth Martinez will trade in his Purple and Aqua threads for some Green and White gear next season, but he will be doing it with a familiar face as the Buccaneers big man will suit up for former FSW Head Coach Marty Richter and USC Upstate for the 2025-2026 season.
Martinez was a 2nd Team All-Citrus Conference selection for the Bucs this season, averaging 7.7 points and 7.0 rebounds per night in 28 FSW contests while shooting 58% from the field which ranked in the Top 10 in the league. He notched eight double-doubles on the season including four straight late in Citrus Conference play to punch the Bucs ticket to the postseason.
He will look to help get former Bucs Head Coach Marty Richter and the Spartans on track after Upstate finished just 6-26 a season ago and fell in the opening round of the Big South Championships.
Martinez is one of three players off the Bucs 2024-2025 squad who have signed at the Division I level thus far, joining Chol Machot (College of Charleston) and K'jei Parker (UMass).
