Bucs Score Season High 114 in Blowout Win
The Florida SouthWestern Buccaneers were clicking on all cylinders Sunday afternoon to close out the Jim Cox Classic in Miami, shooting 60% from the field and 48% from the three point line while dishing out 33 assists on 47 made baskets in a 114-75 blowout of Southern Union State for their sixth straight victory.
MIAMI, Fla.- The Florida SouthWestern Buccaneers were clicking on all cylinders Sunday afternoon to close out the Jim Cox Classic in Miami, shooting 60% from the field and 48% from the three point line while dishing out 33 assists on 47 made baskets in a 114-75 blowout of Southern Union State for their sixth straight victory.
The Bucs got off to another good start as Mason Blazer hit a three to get their scoring going on and moments later Jeremy Innocent picked off a pass and slammed it home at the other end to put FSW up 9-3 four minutes in. The Bucs hit a slow stretch to allow Southern Union to get back into things, but a 14-4 run over the next four minutes blew it open to a 23-11 game at the midway point of the first. Threes from Kenyon Giles and Trey Fogle bumped the Bucs lead to 45-26 with 4:20 left in the half and another Giles triple in the final minute of the period gave FSW a 53-35 lead into the break at half.
Blazer scored the Bucs first 10 points of the second half to balloon the lead to 63-40 and then eight straight from Lamont Hartfield midway through the half stretched the Bucs lead to 80-53. The Bucs hit the century mark on a lay in from Sean Gomez with 5:21 to go and they would finish off a 114-75 win at the final horn for their sixth straight victory.
The Bison had no answer for the Bucs all afternoon as FSW shot 60% from the field and 48% from three in the win with five different players scoring in double figures. Hartfield finished with a team high 22 while Blazer added 18 and Giles 15. As a team the Bucs assisted on 33 of 47 made baskets including 9 from Amont'e Allen-Johnson.
The Bucs and Bison continued heading in different directions as FSW improves to 7-1 while Southern Union falls to 2-8.
The Bucs will have their two toughest tests of the non-conference next week as they host #8 Gulf Coast State on Wednesday at 6 PM at Suncoast Credit Union Arena before heading to Tallahassee for the Florida Juco Shootout where they will take on defending Region VIII Champions Pensacola State on Saturday at 2 PM.
