Bucs Defense Locks Down For Road Win
During their recent five game winning streak, the #22 Florida SouthWestern Buccaneers have been one of the more dynamic offensive teams in the country, lighting up the scoreboard for over 90 points per game while moving into first place in the Citrus Conference standings. Wednesday night, the shots weren't falling at the rate they had been for the Bucs, but they still found a way to get it done, holding St. Petersburg to just 57 points in a 69-57 win to improve to 18-5 on the year.
ST. PETERSBURG- Fla.- During their recent five game winning streak, the #22 Florida SouthWestern Buccaneers have been one of the more dynamic offensive teams in the country, lighting up the scoreboard for over 90 points per game while moving into first place in the Citrus Conference standings. Wednesday night, the shots weren't falling at the rate they had been for the Bucs, but they still found a way to get it done, holding St. Petersburg to just 57 points in a 69-57 win to improve to 18-5 on the year.
The Bucs got off to an unusually slow start, falling behind 17-15 midway through the first half. Their offense didn't pick up a whole lot from there, but their defense did, holding the Titans to just 9 points over the final 10 minutes of the half, flipping the script and taking a 32-26 advantage into the locker rooms at the break.
The Bucs got things going in the second half and took control of the game. A drive and score from Kenyon Giles and a three from Mason Blazer pushed their lead to double digits and St. Pete never threatened in the final eight minutes of action. At the final horn it was FSW 69 and St. Petersburg 57, giving the Bucs their sixth consecutive victory to take over sole possession of first place in the Citrus Conference standings.
Giles led the Bucs with 17 points in the win while Tyler Bey added 16 and Blazer added 14 against his old squad. No other stats were available at time of release.
The red hot Bucs improve to 18-5 overall and 8-1 in conference action while St. Pete falls to 6-16 overall and 2-7 in league play.
The Bucs return back home on Saturday when they host last place Polk State in a 2 PM tip from Suncoast Arena in Fort Myers.
