FORT MYERS, Fla.- The #24 Florida SouthWestern Buccaneers hammered the visiting Miami Dade Sharks Wednesday night at home in Suncoast Credit Union Arena, using a 51 point second half to blow out the Sharks 95-55 to set up a showdown for first place in the Citrus Conference Saturday against #15 Daytona State in Fort Myers.
Points were actually at a premium early as FSW led just 10-9 eight minutes into the contest. Things picked up from there though as the Bucs held Miami Dade without a single point for nearly six minutes, going on a 13-0 run finished by a steal and slam from Mason Blazer to open up a 23-9 advantage with 8:53 to go in the half. The Bucs continued to pour it on, pushing their lead to 20 on a three from Kenyon Giles and making it 42-20 on Giles' third triple of the half with 2:06 remaining on the clock. At the break it was all FSW with the Bucs going to the locker rooms at the half leading the Sharks 44-27.
Miami Dade hung around early in the second, actually cutting the Bucs lead to a baker's dozen at 55-42 with 13:00 left, but it was all FSW after that. Eight straight points from Trey Fogle gave the Bucs some breathing room and in the blink of an eye a bucket from Tyler Bey had FSW up 25 at 77-52 with under seven minutes remaining in the contest. An alley oop from Marcus Kelley to Roman Cummings made it 86-53 and a late three from Sean Gomez put a bow on it for the Bucs as they finished off a 95-55 blowout win over the Sharks.
FSW hit on 48% from the field in the win and drilled 15 threes on the night. Five players scored in double figures led by Blazer with 18 while Kelley finished with 9 points, 6 rebounds, and 6 assists off the FSW bench and Cummings put up 8 points and 11 boards.
The Bucs get back on track in a big way, improving to 21-6 overall and 11-2 in Citrus Conference play while Miami Dade drops to 15-12 overall and 6-7 in league action.
The win sets up a huge game Saturday at Suncoast Credit Union Arena when they Bucs host #15 Daytona State in not only a Top 25 matchup, but also a matchup for first place in the Citrus Conference standings with two games left to go. Tip off between the Bucs and Falcons is scheduled for 4 PM from Suncoast Arena in Fort Myers.
