FORT MYERS, Fla.- Hitting home runs was commonplace for the Florida SouthWestern Softball team in 2020 as they blasted 32 longballs in just 25 games, but what Haley Ellefson did against Miami Dade on March 5th is something that may never be replicated.

 

Ellefson started in the circle and was penciled in in the eight hole in Head Coach Robert Iamurri's lineup for the first game of a double header against the Sharks.  She was on point in the circle early, striking out three through two shutout innings to begin the game.  She got her first at bat in the bottom of the 2nd and fell behind 0-2 in the count before smashing a two run home run to center field to help herself out and give FSW a 3-0 lead in the contest.  Miami Dade evened the score with three in the third, but when she came up for her next at bat, Ellefson got all three runs back in a single swing, blasting a towering three run home run over the wall in center to put the Bucs back in front 6-3.  She came up with ducks on the pond again in the 5th and the Sharks played with fire once again, which proved to be the wrong decision as Ellefson deposited a 2-0 pitch over the left field wall for a three run bomb, her third of the game to blow the game wide open.  Unfortunately, those would be the only three at bats Ellefson got in the game as the game was called due to the run rule in the 6th.  It was enough though, to give Ellefson arguably the top single game performance in program history as she finished a perfect 3 for 3 with three home runs and eight RBIs.  

 

Ellefson finished the week hitting .833 with three home runs and 12 RBIs in just six official at bats, ultimately earning her FCSAA Player of the Week honors for her efforts.
