FORT MYERS, Fla.- Riding a seven game winning streak, the Florida SouthWestern State Buccaneers moved up another spot in the NJCAA National Rankings on Monday, the fourth consecutive week the Bucs have pushed northwards in the poll.
The Bucs schedule has been quiet the past two weeks with their lone contest coming in a 73-45 win over Daytona State on Friday. The victory pushed FSW to 7-1 overall with their lone loss of the year coming by one point to #1 and undefeated Northwest Florida State in their 2021-2022 opener.
There was very little movement in the week five poll with no team gaining more than one spot and 17 teams remaining glued in the same spot from a week ago. Northwest Florida, Chipola, Jones, Three Rivers, and New Mexico remained the top five teams in the poll and everyone from 8-14, including the Bucs moved up one spot while Butler's loss dropped the Grizzlies from #7 to #14. The Bucs were one of four Region VIII teams in the poll, joining #1 Northwest Florida, #2 Chipola, and #19 Pensacola State representing the state of Florida.
The Bucs have a big week on tap as they host Rudolph's Roundup Tournament in Suncoast Arena this weekend. They will open with DME Academy Friday followed by a matchup with perennial power Odessa on Saturday, and then finishing with Region VIII power Gulf Coast on Sunday.
