High School: Shaffer joins the Bucs from Az Compass Prep in Arizona where she averaged 12 points and 8 rebounds per game as a senior. 

Personal: Born March 11, 2004, she is the daughter of Denton Shaffer and Nichole Lauer who played collegiate volleyball at Colorado State University.  She has a younger sister, Delaney (13), and a younger brother, Kelton  (11).

Turnovers Costly For Bucs In OT Loss To Indian River

The Florida SouthWestern State Buccaneers put together their second best shooting night of the season Saturday on the road against the Indian River State Pioneers, hitting 56% of their shots from the field and 42% from the three point line, but they couldn't overcome their most turnovers since the opening game of the season as they fell 89-86 in overtime to give the Pioneers the season series between the two.

The Florida SouthWestern State Buccaneers gave it their best shot Wednesday night in front of their home crowd in Suncoast Credit Union Arena in Fort Myers, but at the end of the day, the #9 Eastern Florida State Titans, winners of 17 games in a row, were just too much as the Titans edged out the Bucs late 75-67 to all but seal up the inaugural Citrus Conference Championship.

Bucs Hang On Late For Road Win at Daytona

The Florida SouthWestern State Buccaneers won their third straight game Saturday afternoon on the road in Daytona, jumping out to a big early lead and hanging on late for a 65-60 win over the Daytona State Falcons to improve to 8-4 in Citrus Conference play on the year.

Shaffer's Big Game Saves Bucs Against Miami Dade

Trailing by 13 against Miami Dade midway through the third quarter, the Florida SouthWestern State Buccaneers turned to freshman Makenna Shaffer Saturday afternoon in Suncoast Credit Union Arena and the rookie delivered, pouring in 18 of her game high 21 points in the final 12 minutes to lead FSW to a 44-39 come from behind victory in Citrus Conference play.

Bucs Battered By Red Hot Titans

 The Florida SouthWestern State Buccaneers picked the wrong time to have an off night on Thursday as FSW was manhandled in the second half to the tune of a 74-38 loss to a red hot #15 Eastern Florida State team who earned their 15th consecutive win in the victory.

Bucs Get New Year Off to Good Start With Conference Win

The Florida SouthWestern State Buccaneers began 2024 the exact same way they closed out 2023, grinding out a low scoring victory Wednesday night in Suncoast Credit Union Arena.  Despite shooting under 30% on the night, the Bucs dominated the glass, posting a +24 on the boards for a 58-48 win over the visiting Hillsborough Hawks to improve to 3-1 in Citrus Conference action.

The Florida SouthWestern State Buccaneers got off to a good start Wednesday night in their 2023 Citrus Conference home opener, holding a one point lead at the end of the first quarter and a four point lead at the half against Indian River, but the second half was a different story as the Bucs shot just 30% from the field and were 2-13 from the three point line as they watched their lead evaporate and the Pioneers come from behind for a 66-60 win to drop FSW to 5-5 on the year.

Lester's Big Night Leads Bucs Past Mustangs

In what turned into a heavyweight slugfest at Suncoast Credit Union Arena Saturday afternoon between the Florida SouthWestern Buccaneers and the Western Wyoming Mustangs, a hero emerged, as Ashley Lester nailed six three pointers and poured in nearly half her team's points as the Bucs pulled out a 52-48 win to wrap up the 2023 FSW Classic in Fort Myers.

Bucs Tripped Up In Home Opener

Offense was at a premium for the Florida SouthWestern State Buccaneers in their 2023-2024 home opener on Friday night in Suncoast Arena as they shot just 29% and committed 20 turnovers in a 70-58 loss to the #20 Chipola Indians.

Bucs Come Up Short Against #4 CSI

The Florida SouthWestern Buccaneers went toe to toe with the 4th ranked College of Southern Idaho Golden Eagles on the road Saturday night in Twin Falls, Idaho, but in front of a big home crowd, CSI was too much for the young Bucs, taking home a 76-63 win to drop FSW to 2-3 on the year.

Shaffer/Lester Lead Bucs to Comeback Win

 Thursday, it was a hot start and a slow finish for the Florida SouthWestern Buccaneers, the opposite was true on Friday and so was the result as the Bucs shook off a 14-0 deficit to begin the game against Yavapai to come from behind for a 74-65 victory behind a combined 44 points from freshmen Ashley Lester and Makenna Shaffer.

Second Half Shutdown Costs Bucs in Loss to North Idaho

The Florida SouthWestern State Buccaneers got out to a hot start in the cold mountain air of Idaho on Thursday afternoon as they took part in the Coca Cola Invitational in Twin Falls, putting up 20 points in the first quarter in their matchup with the North Idaho Cardinals. However, their offense sputtered from there, managing just 13 second half points and just four in the fourth quarter as they attempted a comeback, ultimately falling 65-48 to the Cardinals to fall to 1-2 on the year.

Bucs Close Out Opening Weekend With Win

The Florida SouthWestern Buccaneers earned their first win of the 2023-2024 season on Saturday afternoon in Jacksonville, putting it to the Southern Crescent Tech Lady Tigers to the tune of an 86-31 drubbing to even their record to 1-1 at the end of the opening weekend of the year.
