Serrano Nets FCSAA Player of the Week Honors
Florida SouthWestern freshman Samantha Serrano couldn't have drawn up much of a better start to her collegiate basketball career than she has experienced the past couple of weeks, scoring 13 points in her debut on opening night and done nothing but set a new career high in scoring each of her next three games. This week, Serrano put up a pair of 20+ point performances, earning her FCSAA Player of the Week honors for week three.
TALLAHASSEE, Fla.- Florida SouthWestern freshman Samantha Serrano couldn't have drawn up much of a better start to her collegiate basketball career than she has experienced the past couple of weeks, scoring 13 points in her debut on opening night and done nothing but set a new career high in scoring each of her next three games. This week, Serrano put up a pair of 20+ point performances, earning her FCSAA Player of the Week honors for week three.
Serrano averaged 25.5 points per game for the Bucs last week, shooting a scorching 56% from the field, 47% from the three-point line, and 70% from the charity stripe in two FSW contests. She opened up the week with a career high 23 point performance on 64% shooting in a win over Western Wyoming Friday night in Suncoast Arena and backed that up with a 28 point effort on 9-18 shooting in a close loss to #2 Northwest Florida State. on Saturday afternoon.
Through four games this season Serrano leads the Bucs averaging 19.5 points per game while shooting 54% from the field, 46% from the three-point line, and 72% from the free throw line. She currently ranks second in the FCSAA and in the Top 10 Nationally with her 19.5 points per contest.
Serrano is the first FSW player to earn FCSAA Player of the Week honors since Blessing King in January of 2023.
Serrano and the Bucs continue a difficult early season schedule this week as they travel to Panama City Beach for a rematch with #2 Northwest Florida Friday before taking on the host and 5th ranked Gulf Coast State Commodores on Saturday.
