NICEVILLE, Fla.- After winning their final eight games of the regular season and pulling away with the Citrus Conference Championship, the Florida SouthWestern State Buccaneers have drawn the #3 seed for the upcoming FCSAA Championships in Niceville and will take on the red hot Pensacola State Pirates in the first round of the tournament on Wednesday.
Wednesday's matchup between the Bucs and Pirates will be a duel of two of the hottest teams in the state heading into the postseason. FSW hasn't lost since January while Pensacola picked up back to back wins over Top 10 ranked opponents to close the regular season and punch their ticket to Niceville. FSW and Pensacola will be the second game of the day on the opening day of the event with tipoff scheduled for 4 PM (ET).
FSW won the Citrus Conference Championship by a full four games this season, finishing with a 17-1 mark in league play and a 23-4 record overall. Pensacola's season was a roller coaster as the Pirates started the season 15-3 before losing 8 of 9 to begin Panhandle Conference play, just to win their last three of the regular season to qualify for the tournament.
The Bucs and Pirates didn't play this season, but did open the 2023-2024 season against each other in Jacksonville with Pensacola winning a 75-57 decision.
The winner of the FSW/Pensacola game will take on the winner of the Chipola/Miami Dade first round matchup on Friday in the semifinals. The other side of the bracket has top seeded Northwest Florida against 8th seeded Hillsborough and 4th seeded Gulf Coast against 5th seeded Eastern Florida.
For fans who aren't able to make it to Niceville for the tournament, all games will be streaming free of charge on the FCSAA Digital Network and the Bucs will also be having their official watch parties at Buckett's throughout the week where fans can cheer on the Purple and Aqua next to other Bucs fans!
