Owona Named Top FCSAA Women's Basketball Student-Athlete
Florida SouthWestern’s Sarah Owona was awarded the Sandy Miller Award on Friday, denoting her as the top FCSAA Women’s Basketball student-athlete for the 2024-2025 academic year.
TALLAHASSEE, Fla.- Florida SouthWestern's Sarah Owona was awarded the Sandy Miller Award on Friday, denoting her as the top FCSAA Women's Basketball student-athlete for the 2024-2025 academic year.
Owona started all 31 games for the Bucs this season, leading FSW to a Citrus Conference Championship and a trip to the NJCAA National Tournament Sweet 16 as a sophomore. She played nearly 35 minutes per game for the Bucs this year, averaging 11.3 points and 5.8 rebounds per game while shooting 44% from the field and 39% from three point land to earn 2nd Team All-Citrus Conference honors.
In the classroom she was equally as exceptional, earning NJCAA All-Academic, and FCSAA All-Academic Team honors for the second straight season while also being named a CSC Academic All-District selection. She graduated from FSW in May with her Associate of Arts degree and compiled a 3.87 cumulative GPA in her two years in Fort Myers.
Next season Owona will continue onto the NCAA Division I level where she will play at the University of Tennessee at Chattanooga.
The Sandy Miller Award is given annually to the top FCSAA Women's Basketball student-athlete combining both athletic and academic achievements for selection.
Owona is the first FSW Women's Basketball player to earn the award.
