Bucs Earn Fifth Straight AVCA Team Academic Award
The Florida SouthWestern State Volleyball team was not only successful on the court this season, winning their second straight NJCAA National Championship, but they weren't too shabby in the classroom either as the Bucs put together a 3.61 Team GPA to earn their fifth consecutive AVCA Team Academic Award.
LEXINGTON, Ky.- The Florida SouthWestern State Volleyball team was not only successful on the court this season, winning their second straight NJCAA National Championship, but they weren't too shabby in the classroom either as the Bucs put together a 3.61 Team GPA to earn their fifth consecutive AVCA Team Academic Award.
The Bucs were one of just 18 NJCAA Division I programs and one of just three in the state of Florida to earn the 2023-2024 USMC/AVCA Team Academic Award. The award, in it's 31st year this season, is given to programs that maintain a 3.30 or better team GPA throughout the course of the year.
"We are pleased that the record-setting success of the 2023-24 season on the court has extended to the classroom, too, as evidenced by more programs earning the Team Academic Award than ever before," says AVCA CEO Dr. Jaime Gordon. "This is a great example of how committed our coaches are when it comes to helping their players reach their full potential as both students and athletes."
On the court, FSW finished 33-1 and won their second straight NJCAA National Championship, joining seven other programs that won National Championships and the Team Academic Award this year.
"Every day we talk to our players about the importance of academics and the impact that they make in a myriad of different areas in their every day and future lives." FSW Head Coach Thais Baziquetto-Allen said. "I am so proud of the dedication and commitment our student-athletes put towards achieving this award and am excited to continue to watch them achieve academically throughout the rest of their collegiate careers."
It marks the fifth consecutive year that the Bucs have garnered the honors.
