FSW Sophomore Spotlight- Abby Toeniskoetter- Florida Gulf Coast
After winning a pair of National Championships and earning 1st Team All-American honors as a sophomore this season, Florida SouthWestern's Abby Toeniskoetter will remain in Fort Myers the next two seasons, jumping to the other side of I-75 to play at Florida Gulf Coast University.
FORT MYERS, Fla.- After winning a pair of National Championships and earning 1st Team All-American honors as a sophomore this season, Florida SouthWestern's Abby Toeniskoetter will remain in Fort Myers the next two seasons, jumping to the other side of I-75 to play at Florida Gulf Coast University.
Toeniskoetter had one of the most statistically dominant seasons a middle has ever had in the NJCAA Division I ranks this season as a sophomore, leading the country in both blocks per set with 1.50 as well as hitting percentage at .465 to earn consensus 1st Team All-American honors from the NJCAA and AVCA. She averaged 2.65 kills per set this season, the second most in a season by a middle in FSW history. Toeniskoetter hit above .300 in 24 of 26 matches this season including all seven postseason contests. She had 10 or more kills eight times this season including a career high 21 against rival Miami Dade and twice at the National Tournament, going for 12 kills and 10 blocks in the Bucs quarterfinal win over Utah State Eastern and 13 kills on 18 swings in FSW's Championship Game win over Miami Dade. She finished her FSW career with a school record .474 hitting percentage and 1.40 blocks per set.
She joins an FGCU program coming off of four straight trips to the NCAA Tournament including one last fall in which they went 27-5 overall. The Eagles will have a heavy Bucs vibe in 2025 with Toeniskoetter joining forces with former FSW Head Coach Thais Baziquetto-Allen, as well as 2022 and 2024 NJCAA National Players of the Years and former Bucs Barbara Koehler and Julija Grubisic Cabo.
Toeniskoetter is one of eight Buccaneer sophomores to sign at the next level for 2025 including one of six at the NCAA Division I level. She is joined by Nina Boledovicova (Virginia Commonwealth), Camilla Brandalise (Virginia Tech), Julija Grubisic Cabo (Florida Gulf Coast), Anna Marzella (Southern Utah), Nele Broszat (Cal State Bakersfield), Clara Maidantchik (Lynn), and Sofia Augusto (Palm Beach Atlantic).
