Bucs fans won’t have to go far to cheer on Anna Marzella next season as the two time National Champ is headed just down the road to Florida Gulf Coast University to continue her Volleyball and academic career.
FORT MYERS, Fla.- Bucs fans won't have to go far to cheer on Anna Marzella next season as the two time National Champ is headed just down the road to Florida Gulf Coast University to continue her Volleyball and academic career.
Marzella played in 49 matches the past two seasons for the Bucs, finishing her FSW career with 376 digs and 37 aces. Marzella finished with 13 career matches with 10 or more digs including four straight at the 2023 NJCAA National Tournament, and a program three set record 23 in FSW's semifinal win over Trinity Valley. Also an accomplished passer, Marzella finished her career with a .947 passing percentage in 532 chances.
Marzella helped lead the Bucs to a 57-2 record in two seasons while winning a pair of Citrus Conference and FCSAA Championships and going out on top with back to back NJCAA National Championships.
She joins an FGCU program coming off of four straight trips to the NCAA Tournament including one last fall in which they went 27-5 overall. The Eagles will have a heavy Bucs vibe in 2025 with Marzella joining forces with former FSW teammates and NJCAA All-Americans Julija Grubisic Cabo and Abby Toeniskoetter, as well as Head Coach Thais Baziquetto-Allen, and 2022 NJCAA National Players of the Year and former Buc Barbara Koehler.
Marzella is one of eight Buccaneer sophomores to sign at the next level for 2025 including one of six at the NCAA Division I level. She is joined by Nina Boledovicova (Virginia Commonwealth), Camilla Brandalise (Virginia Tech), Julija Grubisic Cabo & Abby Toeniskoetter (Florida Gulf Coast), Nele Broszat (Cal State Bakersfield), Clara Maidantchik (Lynn), and Sofia Augusto (Palm Beach Atlantic).
