Bucs All-American Inks With Tritons
Following an All-American sophomore campaign with the Florida SouthWestern Buccaners, setter Irina Makinen has signed to continue her athletic and academic career next season at Eckerd College where she will reunite with FSW teammate Sarah Webb with the Tritons.
FORT MYERS, Fla.- Following an All-American sophomore campaign with the Florida SouthWestern Buccaners, setter Irina Makinen has signed to continue her athletic and academic career next season at Eckerd College where she will reunite with FSW teammate Sarah Webb with the Tritons.
Makinen was a consensus 1st Team All-American this season, earning the distinction from both the NJCAA and AVCA. She ranked 3rd in the country this season, averaging 10.49 assists per set and set a new FSW single season record with 1,143 total assists. She had five matches with 50 or more assists and became the first player in program history with back to back 50 assist contests midway through the year. Five times she was named the FCSAA Setter of the Week while earning All-Tournament Team accolades at both the FCSAA and NJCAA National Tournaments.
She will join Webb at Eckerd to try to help the Tritons build off a 19 win season this fall.
Makinen is one of eight Bucs to sign at the next level this season, joining Sara Gamboa (Florida Atlantic), Patrycja Labucka (South Dakota State), Dinara Sabitova (Florida Gulf Coast), Giovanna Rocha (South Florida-Beach), Sara Gasparini (Morgan State), Sarah Webb (Eckerd), and Aleksandra Lucic (Mercy).
