The Florida SouthWestern Buccaneers shot a scorching 52% from three point range in a dominating 101-82 win over Indian River Saturday afternoon at Suncoast Credit Union Arena in Fort Myers.
FORT MYERS, Fla.- The Florida SouthWestern Buccaneers shot a scorching 52% from three point range in a dominating 101-82 win over Indian River Saturday afternoon at Suncoast Credit Union Arena in Fort Myers.
Looking for their fifth straight win, the Bucs got off to a blazing hot start, jumping on the Pioneers to the tune of a 12-2 lead just 3:13 into the contest. A jumper from Amont'e Allen-Johnson stretched the lead to 21-8 and midway through the first it was all FSW, leading it 30-18. Mason Blazer nailed back to back threes to bump the Bucs lead to 40-25 and a triple from Kenyon Giles moments later kept it a 15 point game in favor of the Bucs at 45-30 with 5:20 to go in the half. The tempo slowed down for both sides in the final five minutes of the half with the Bucs going to the locker room at the break with a 54-41 lead.
Indian River got back to within single digits to begin the second half, but the Bucs quickly went on a run, getting a tip in from Lamont Harfield and another Giles three to stretch their advantage out to 68-52. Another 11-2 burst from the Bucs blew the game wide open with FSW taking a 79-54 lead to the under 12 media timeout. The Bucs kept firing and kept hitting as Hartfield and Giles banged home triples and Trey Fogle got in on the act with one of his own to put the Bucs on the verge of the century mark. A Fogle bucket on the inside pushed them into triple digits and FSW went on to win it 101-82.
The Bucs shot a scalding 52% from distance in the win while oddly enough shooting just 42% from two point range. Six Bucs scored in double figures led by Blazer and Giles who each finished with 22 while combining for 9 three pointers made. Stephen Okoro notched a double-double with 10 points and 10 rebounds, his third straight game with 10 or more boards.
FSW closes the first half of Citrus Conference play in first place at 7-1 while winning their fifth straight game to improve to 17-5 overall. Indian River falls to 11-10 overall and finds themselves on the outside looking in at the FCSAA playoff picture at 3-5 in league play.
The Bucs will now play three of their next four on the road, starting Wednesday when they travel to St. Petersburg to take on the Titans in a 7 PM tip.
