FSW Sweeps Top 10 Battle With Eastern
The #4 Florida SouthWestern Buccaneers put together their best day of the year in the biggest spot thus far, sweeping the #6 Eastern Florida State Titans 8-2 and 4-0 on the road in Melbourne to move to 23-3 on the year.
MELBOURNE, Fla.- The #4 Florida SouthWestern Buccaneers put together their best day of the year in the biggest spot thus far, sweeping the #6 Eastern Florida State Titans 8-2 and 4-0 on the road in Melbourne to move to 23-3 on the year.
The Bucs were the aggressors early on as three of their first four hitters of the game reached base including a two run single from Senna Grootings to put FSW in front right away 2-0.
FSW added to their lead in the 3rd as they loaded the bases with one out before Megan Veilleux drilled a triple to the wall in right to clear the bases and make it a 5-0 game. Veilleux scored three pitches later on a wild pitch and after three complete it was FSW leading the Titans 6-0.
Bucs starter Lizzy Kwakernaak continued to baffle the Titan hitters and the Bucs kept tacking on in the 4th with another RBI from Veilleux on a sacrifice fly to right to make it 7-0 Bucs.
Eastern had their best scoring chance in the bottom of the 4th as they loaded the bases with nobody out and pushed across a run before Kwakernaak worked her way out of the jam with a pop up and a big strikeout to keep the Bucs well out in front 7-1.
The Bucs added another run in the 6th and the Titans made a push in their final at bats, but could only muster one as FSW finished off an 8-2 win in the opener.
Veilleux led the Bucs with four RBIs in the win while Grootings had a pair of runs scored and two RBIs. Kwakernaak went the distance in the circle, striking out six to earn the win and improve to 5-2 on the year.

Game two was a pitcher's dual early on with the teams combining for just one hit through the first three innings of action.
The Bucs broke through in the 4th with Veilleux cracking the ice with her fifth RBI of the day and Stephanie Basso picking up a two out knock behind her to make it 2-0 FSW midway through.
The Bucs doubled their lead in the next frame as Grootings blooped in a two out single to drive home a run and Bente Zwanenburg followed suit with a single to right to make it 4-0 FSW.
Bucs starter Zoe Yzaguirre continued to deal in the bottom of the 5th, blowing through the Titan order 1-2-3 to keep FSW in front 4-0.
Eastern made some noise in their final at bats in the 7th, bringing the tying run to the on deck circle with two outs, but Yzaguirre dialed up her biggest pitch of the afternoon for a strikeout to finish off the shutout victory.
Yzaguirre spun a gem, allowing just two hits in the shutout to improve to 9-1 on the year. The Bucs had five of the seven hits in the contest with Zwanenburg leading the way, going 2-3 with an RBI and a run scored.

The Bucs run their win streak to eight, improving to 23-3 overall while taking over sole possession of first place in the Citrus Conference standings at 9-1. Eastern Florida falls to 16-6 overall and 4-4 in league action.
FSW will have the week off before returning to the field next Saturday when they travel to Winter Haven to take on Polk State for two beginning at 1 PM.
