Big Second Half Pushes Bucs Past Hawks
As the old saying goes, it's not how you start, it's how you finish. That was a good thing for the Florida SouthWestern Buccaneers on Wednesday night in Tampa as after a forgettable first half, the Bucs stormed out of the locker rooms in the third quarter with a 27 point quarter before finishing off the Hillsborough Hawks 72-66 to improve to 17-8 on the year.
TAMPA, Fla.- As the old saying goes, it's not how you start, it's how you finish.
The game got off to a good pace with the Bucs and Hawks trading the lead back and forth early before Hillsborough grabbed an 18-16 advantage at the end of one.
The Bucs went cold in the second, managing just four field goals in the period as Hillsborough built on their lead and took a 10 point lead at 36-26 into the locker rooms at the break.
Whatever FSW Head Coach Jamie Fisher said to his team in the locker room was point well taken as the Bucs came out with their hair on fire in the third, matching their entire first half production in the first 10 minutes of the second to completely flip the script and take a 53-51 lead after three quarters of play.
They carried the momentum into the fourth and turned to their closer Amelia Williams who poured in eight points in the quarter to help the Bucs finish off the Hawks 72-66 at the final horn.
Chelsea Bishop led the Bucs with 20 points while Destinie Gordon notched a double-double with 16 points and 11 rebounds. Williams made Bucs history, recording her fourth straight double figures scoring game in a row off the bench with 15.
The Bucs win their fourth straight to improve to 17-8 on the year while picking up their 10th Citrus Conference victory in the process. Hillsborough's tumble continues as they fall to 11-13 overall and 5-8 with their fifth straight defeat.
The Bucs close out a four game road stretch on Saturday when they travel to Melbourne to take on Eastern Florida in a 2 PM tip from Titan Fieldhouse.
