#6 FSW Blanked by #2 Odessa at National Tournament

The #6 Florida SouthWestern State Buccaneers were looking for revenge Friday at the NJCAA National Tournament as they took on the #2 Odessa Wranglers, who handed the Bucs a five set loss earlier this season.  Every set played out nearly identically as Odessa got out to an early lead before FSW came back to tie things up midway through, but at the end, the Wranglers pulled off a 3-0 sweep in three close sets to advance to Saturday's 5th place matchup while the Bucs fell to the 7th place match where they will try to finish their 2020-2021 season with a win Saturday morning against Utah State-Eastern.

As most teams do in 2021, the #6 Florida SouthWestern State Buccaneers have a group chat on their phones to send daily messages throughout the team in the easiest fashion.  The title of that group chat; The Road to Missouri, referencing the location of the 2021 NJCAA National Tournament, West Plains, Missouri.  After winning the Suncoast Conference Championship and finishing as the Runners-Up at the FCSAA Tournament last week, that road to Missouri was paved for the Bucs on Friday as they defeated Spartanburg Methodist 3-0 to punch their ticket to their first NJCAA National Tournament in program history as the NJCAA Southeast District B Champions.

FSW Finishes As State Runners-Up, Advances to Southeast District Championships

It was a battle of two teams in very different spots in their program histories Sunday afternoon in Jacksonville as the #6 Florida SouthWestern State Buccaneers took on the #1 Miami Dade Sharks for the FCSAA State Championship. The Bucs, in just their second season as a program, matched up against the 39-time State Champion Sharks. The Bucs fought valiantly, but couldn't overcome the undefeated Sharks attack, falling in three sets to finish as the 2020-2021 FCSAA Runners-Up.  The second place finish earned the Bucs a trip to the next round of the postseason where they will take on Spartanburg Methodist next Friday in Jacksonville in the Southeast District Finals with a trip to the NJCAA National Tournament on the line.

For the third time this season, the #6 Florida SouthWestern State Buccaneers won a Top 10 matchup with the #8 Polk State Eagles, this time in the FCSAA State Tournament with a trip to the tournament semifinals on the line. FSW won a highly contested first set 25-23 before coming from behind for 25-19 wins in both the second and third sets to sweep the Eagles 3-0 and advance to Saturday's semifinal against undefeated and top ranked Miami Dade.

Bucs Sweep Opener at FCSAA State Tournament

A season ago the roles were reversed.  The Hillsborough Hawks were the Suncoast Conference Champions and clinched their spot in the FCSAA State Tournament early while the upstart Florida SouthWestern State Buccaneers found out at the last minute, literally, that they would be headed to Jacksonville for a first round matchup with the Hawks.  Hillsborough handled the Bucs in that match and eventually ended FSW's season later in the tournament.  This season, it was the Suncoast Conference Champion and #6 Nationally ranked Bucs giving Hillsborough a taste of their own medicine, hammering the Hawks 3-0 in the opening round of the 2020-2021 FCSAA State Tournament Thursday to advance in the winner's bracket of the tournament where they will face #8 Polk State Friday.

A season ago, the Hillsborough Hawks had the Florida SouthWestern State Buccaneers’ number. Slow Start, Strong Finish For Bucs On Opening Day

Playing for the first time in 447 days, a little bit of rust was expected for the Florida SouthWestern State Volleyball team Friday afternoon as they opened their 2021 season against the Daytona State Falcons.  The Bucs struggled the first two sets, falling behind 2-0 before storming back to tie the match at 2 after four.  But they couldn't capitalize on a strong start to the fifth set as Daytona took it by two to win the match 3-2.  Later in the day, the Bucs took their frustrations out on Palm Beach, hammering the Panthers 3-0 to finish opening day 1-1.
