Freshman (2023-24): Owona played in all 30 games for the Bucs as a freshman last season, averaging 6.0 points and 3.8 rebounds per game.  She got a heavy workload right off the bat for the Bucs, playing 20 or more minutes in each of her first eight career games played.  She scored in double figures five times on the year including a career high 14 in a win over Miami Dade before the break. Owona wasn't afraid to get inside and mix things up as well, putting down six or more rebounds on five occasions including a career high 8 against Indian River. Also a standout in the classroom, Owona posted a perfect 4.0 GPA as a freshman to earn her NJCAA 1st Team All-Academic and FCSAA Academic All-State honors. 

High School: Owona prepped with the Liege Panthers in Belgium where she helped her team to a Belgian U19 National Championship. 

Personal: Born May 3, 2005, she is the daughter of Jose Owona and Karin Op de Beeck.  She has two younger sisters, Yaelle (16) and Chloe (13).

Florida SouthWestern superstar freshman Samantha Serrano is heading to the Division I level after one year with the Bucs after signing at the University of Illinois-Chicago where she will suit up for the Flames next season.

Defense Propels Bucs to Opening Round Win at National Tournament

The #12 Florida SouthWestern State Buccaneers held the Itawamba Lady Indians to just 36 points in a 61-36 win at the NJCAA National Tournament in Casper, Wyoming Wednesday afternoon.  It is the Bucs first win at the National Tournament since the 2019 season and pushes FSW on to the Sweet 16 where they will take on #3 New Mexico Friday.

Cold Shooting Dooms Bucs in FCSAA Semis

The #12 Florida SouthWestern State Buccaneers picked a bad time for their second worst shooting game of the season Friday afternoon in Niceville, hitting on just 32% from the field in a 66-54 loss to #4 Chipola to bring their run at the FCSAA Championships to an end in the round of four.  FSW will now have to play the waiting game to see if they have earned an at large bid for the NJCAA National Tournament which will be announced on Sunday.

The #12 Florida SouthWestern State Buccaneers opened their 2025 postseason run with a victory Wednesday afternoon in Niceville, dominating from wire to wire in a 64-42 win over the Pensacola State Pirates in the first round of the FCSAA Tournament.

Bucs Win Eighth Straight to Close Regular Season

No team will head to the 2025 FCSAA Tournament hotter than the #12 Florida SouthWestern State Buccaneers as FSW won their eighth straight game Monday night, going on the road and defeating the Daytona State Falcons 78-52 to close the regular season 23-4.

Bucs Sophs Lead the Way in Final Home Game

Showered with cheers before, during, and after Wednesday night's game against the Miami Dade Sharks, the Citrus Conference Champion #13 Florida SouthWestern State Buccaneers shined in their final home game of the 2025 season as Sarah Owona scored a career high 22 points, Georgi Buzzetti dished out a career best 10 assists, and Ivy Brown ripped down 14 rebounds as FSW avenged their only loss of conference play with a 74-60 win over the Sharks.

The Florida SouthWestern State Buccaneers are the 2025 Citrus Conference Champions! FSW went on the road and took care of business against the Santa Fe Saints 75-56, with five players scoring in double figures including Sarah Owona and Elina Briede who notched career highs as the Bucs improved to 15-1 in league play to clinch the title with two regular season games left to go.

Six In Double Figures As Bucs Blow Past #5 Gulf Coast 95-73

Playing a brutal early season schedule, the story of the Florida SouthWestern Buccaneers year thus far has been close but no cigar, dropping three games to ranked opponents by a total of 14 points.  Saturday, they made up for that and then some, putting a beatdown on #5 Gulf Coast State as six players scored in double figures including Ivy Brown who lit up the Commodores for 25 as FSW earned their first top five win in over two years with a 95-73 victory in Panama City.

A season ago, the Northwest Florida State Raiders played for a National Championship in Casper, Wyoming.
